I posted earlier about this sponsored WordPress themes issue, and to be honest I was hoping after the big discussions that something would be done about it. Well, it didn’t happen. On the theme repository site at http://themes.wordpress.net the number of “free” themes went well over 3,000. The …

Finally, on the weekend I had the chance to read through the WP Ideas section about the onging debate regarding the sponsored themes. Yes, I was aware earlier of the Weblog Tolls Collection post and the whole issue. Just didn’t have the time to systematically go through the …

Pages in versions before WP 2.1
There is a lot of confusion about the Pages in the new WordPress version 2.1. As you may know Pages (with capital P) in WP have a special meaning: those are the quasi-static content webpages where you put your About, Contact us and similar …

As it was promised: WordPress version 2.1 has been released today. Lots of new features, bugfixes - and changes. Yes, quite a bit of changes in the admin panel, in organizing the content and links, as described in the developers blog over at wordpress.org. Also changes in …

Every now and then the issue of flexible layout comes up in the WP forum: either somebody looking for it or others trying to make it - and quite rare, someone offering such a theme.

Tomorrow I will have two years spent in the WordPress forum.
Most of that time I used to be a simple member as anyone else, and being promoted to “moderator” it just made it more difficult. It comes with more responsibilities. Whatever you say it gets some kind of authority(?) — even if it shouldn’t. However, that’s the general perception…
It is quite a long time. (My wife says I am addicted to it…)
Addicted or not, I like helping in the Forum. Generally it is a very rewarding activity. Seeing a newbie struggling with the installation and then coming back with a big smile saying “thanks, it works now” — it’s good. Explaining a more complicated feature or just providing some good resources from the Codex usually puts the users on the right track.
Yes, sometimes writing the same answers for the 103rd time… is a bit boring. But for the new user it is only the first time. They are not familiar (yet) with the Search functionality or just too frightened by an error message to think about a search.

A comment posted yesterday reminded me about the update of the Dark Maple theme. A few days ago I have modified the sidebar to work with the new Widgets plugin but I forgot to post about it. I am not sure whether the calendar will work …

I have used the Vesuvius “template” (interface?) by Root for WP 1.2.x and I was delighted by the flexibility of it - fluid 3 column. Since I couldn’t find any version of it ported to WP 1.5 I decided to do the job.
You can see it in action by …
