About the Prairie Gazette
This section started its own life as a separate blog on a subdomain of my first website in November 2005. At that time I hoped it would replace my abandoned Hungarian blog and serve as a playground to prove to myself that I am able to write “newspaper-like” articles in another language than my mother tongue… The blog used to have a tagline saying The view from the centre. Here is what I wrote about this in 2005:
Where is the “centre”?
A few kilometers from the place where I live there is a sign on the Highway #1 that says this point is at equal distance from the eastern and western coast of Canada. Now, this is the centre.
Before immigrating to Canada I used to be an immigrant in an Eastern European country. It was just a move from a language minority status to a language majority status. In both countries I also used to be a journalist. Since I don’t see a chance to become a journalist again in a foreign country – I’ve decided to to create my own and personal online “gazette”.
Disclaimer. This site is not affiliated with any political party or organization. All its content reflects my personal1 views and opinion.
Actually, I wasn’t precise about the “center”. Oficially it is called the longitudinal Centre of Canada. Anyway, since my attempt to create a permanently updated one-man-show type commentary on public affairs failed spectacularly… I decided to merge that old blog with my other blog, which has been focused on WordPress tips and tutorials.
Having all my interests under one roof it might give you a better idea of who I am and why I am blogging. Wish me persistence to keep it updated!
- I used the pen name “Invisibleminority” because that’s what I think I am… ⇑
