- Welcome to the new-old MoshuBlog
- How to merge two old WordPress blogs
As I have announced in my old (terminated) blog the other day: I moved all the posts from the “Playing with WordPress” to this new location, and also merged into it posts from a quite neglected blog of mine, called “My Prairie Gazette”. If you were reading either of those - now you will get more.
There are many reasons for doing this and, probably, I will post more about it as we go along. For now I am going to mention briefly only a few of them. First of all, there are moments in everyone’s life when you have to sit down and set priorities. Many times, unfortunately, you need some shocking experience to realize what are the important things in the life and how should you live the remaining time. I had such a moment recently…
Those who followed my activity in the WordPress Support Forums know that I have spent in the past an insane amount of time replying to questions. Sometimes it seemed I am online day and night. It seemed like an addiction… although I stopped even to enjoy it (what any “decent” addict is supposed to feel, I guess). So, the decision came: if I am spending anyway so much time on the internet, at least I should do something more enjoyable.
Now, profesionally, I have had two periods in my life when I was extremely happy and satisfied: while working as a journalist at a daily newspaper in Budapest, Hungary and, later, as a head of a humanitarian aid mission in Chechnya. Obviously, my present circumstances wouldn’t let me to go abroad for extended periods, therefore the only thing that I can try to “re-create” is the daily writing. Actually, the initial intent with my prairiegazette blog was exactly that: to have a kind of “one-man-show” newspaper. However, I had to realize that dividing my attention between more blogs (and other things) is too much for me, so I brought the two blogs under one roof.
I hope to end up with a more personal blog where I can unleash my passionate writing about all things that I am interested in. Yes, I have to increase the number of readers. Yes, I will have ads and affiliate links, because I have to increase my online revenues. Yes, I will have to market my blog more aggressively. Posting daily will be the start of the journey to become a full time blogger.
Of course, I have looked around to see what the “big guys” are doing — like ProBlogger or John Chow and some others, but I also recognize that those are unique cases and few people would be able to reproduce their results… Although one can always learn some ideas from everywhere. And when I looked at John Chow’s blog, I said to myself: I am a Canadian as he is, English is not my first language and neither is his, he is helping people with ideas about moneymaking, I am helping people with ideas about using WordPress — that’s a lot of things in common :)
Finally, a note about the domain name. Back in 2000 I have signed my very first attempt to make a website with the nickname “Moshu”, and since then it became a kind of trademark for all my web related activites. It was quite natural to go with the domain moshublog.com. Bookmark it and/or subscribe to the feeds: the free WP tutorials will continue to be published, free themes will be released and, who knows, one day I might start posting my memoirs in Chechnya…

Well done moshu, glad you’re doing the sensible thing to combine your audiences into the same roof. Wish you all the best in the future and i will continue to be your loyal supporter!
Thanks for the kind words - and please, be proud, you made “history”. Yours is the first comment on this new domain :)
Nice colors and your content unmatched. But who’s the ugly-cuss at the top of the site ;)
Great re-work.
