Two plugins for WordPress 2.1: in-series and CQS

Welcome back! Did you get your WIDGETIZER yet? Download Widget Magic.

For a project I desperately needed the In Series and the Custom Query String plugins. I use them in older web sites with earlier WP versions but they don’t work with the 2.1 branch of WP. Although I still keep saying I am not a coder, I succeeded to modify them to work with WordPress 2.1.x.

The In Series Reloaded written by Scott Merrill (Skippy) was easier, on my test site works perfectly and all the functions (tags) described in the readme do exactly what they are supposed to.

With the Custom Query String plugin — by Matt Read — I struggled more: there was one option that I couldn’t make to work. So, those familiar with the plugin will, probably, notice, you cannot select the is_archive from the dropdown menu. You will have to specify what kind of archive do you want to display. For example, for the monthly archives (which are far the most usual in the WP world) select the is_month option; for categories - is_category etc.
One more thing. Although I can’t remember how did it work in the original, in this present version for views (pages) not selected and defined on the plugin’s options page - the number of posts set in the Options > Reading will be applied.

You can get them from my Download page or by clicking on the “Download Themes” on the top menu. (When the site was set up I couldn’t imagine I’ll offer plugins for download…)
They are offered “as is” without any warranty. Remember: I am not a coder. They worked for me - hopefully, you will enjoy them, too.

If you have any ideas how to make them better, please, don’t hesitate to jump in. Or let me know, if they have bugs… or better tell me how to fix those bugs!

    Hi Moshu,

thanks a lot for offering this plugin. It is very helpful for me. But I’m running in a problem with subcategories. Maybe you can help me or tell if it based on the plugin or the theme?

    I use k2RC4 (www.getks.com) on WP 2.2.3 and CQS 2.7.1 at http://www.celtic-rock.de.

When I use permalink structure “normal” the plugin works on subcategories. When I change to /archives/123 it has no effect on subcategories, only on the first level. You can see it on “Bandporträts” (works) and “Deutschland” (no effect). Both are set to 100 items sort by title ASC.

    Best wishes

    Daniel

To be honest I don’t know much about k2 (and don’t even want to deal with it). Just for troubleshooting you may want to try to switch to another theme and see if it works with your custom permalinks.
At this moment I don’t have a 2.2.3 test installation, so I will need to make one and test it. Maybe I can do it later - I will post here about the result.

    Hi Moshu,

thanks for the advice, now I know that it does not depend on the theme. I’ve the same problem with wordpress standard-theme (1.6).
