The dreams in the digital bedroom - or why MSN sucks

While Bill Gates shares his futuristic dreams about the digital bedroom and other similar idiocies - his whole gang is not able to make MSN work as it is expected. MSN’s “mypage” is not able to read RSS feeds despite the claims it can.

I had to add to a blog the usual little graphics in the sidebar: add to MyYahoo, add to Google, add to MyMSN etc. My OCD forced me to go and check how they work, even if I knew the code was correct. So, I registered on MSN Canada, went to My Page and did all the necessary steps to add content: meaning to have RSS feeds from other providers than those offered by MSN.

I tried one blog of mine: nothing. The second one. Nothing. Finally, it found this blog. Added. But still no joy. Since yesterday up till now it shows only a box saying: msn

OK, I gave it up, thinking there must be something wrong with my blog’s RSS feeds. Although they show up everywhere else. Next I tried to add some Newsfeeds from BBC. That must work. The whole world is reading those feeds, they come with the standard Firefox installation (even if you didn’t ask for it) - so that’s the sure check. Just go to their site, click on the Newsfeeds and go to their detailed Newsfeeds page. For the sake of simplicity I chose the News Front Page.

Guess what?

There are currently no matches contaning “url:http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonline_uk_edition/front_page/rss.xml” however syndicated content changes frequently and retrying this search later may produce better results.

If it is for an hour or a few minutes I am inclined to believe it’s a “normal” internet glitch. If it is persistent and the same results for anybody else except their own “popular” content — I start to think it is premeditated. Unfortunately, we let (and helped) them grow this big, where they can afford to not give a sh*** what we think…

Freakin’ aye dude! I can’t tell if my site is “published” or not! I get the same “unavaiable” box. I do know that my hit count has been lower ever since that box appeared on “mymsn” page
    It’s a conspiracy! haha
