2007 - without rankings and resolutions

I don’t know about you but around this time of every year, I mean just as the old one ends and the new year begins, I always get tired of two things: the ranking mania and the resolutions.
All the newspapers and magazines, TV-shows, even the blogs are full of top 10 (100 or 1,000) best, worst, weirdest lists. Everything is ranked. Somehow as the ranking itself became more important than the things in the list. As if the ranking (or the position in it) will perform some magic and change the life. The president of the University of Manitoba, Em?ke Szathmáry, had an interesting remark about the annual ranking of the universities: not even the institution ranked #1 on the top will make you a genius, and not even the top rated colleges will spare you from learning. Top or not - you have to do your “homework”. Why do I have the impression nobody wants to hear that kind of message?
As for blog rankings and posts ranking: there seem to be a realization of the effects of social bookmarking sites (like digg.com or http://del.icio.us/) on blogging. Popularity doesn’t always mean quality…
Oh, and the mandatory New Year’s Resolutions. Mine is like this: I will not make any new year’s resolutions. I’ll just enjoy 2007. You should, too!
Update Jan 10, 2007. Seemingly, I am not the only one concerned about the effects of the social bookmarking on blogosphere…
