North, jails and solutions…

Problem #1. Canada has a problem claiming sovereignity in the North. If you don’t know what I am talking about, check out these news on OhmyNews. According to IPS last month we sent soldiers up there to show some “activity” to be able to claim those territories. It is especially about the Northwest Passage: now that seemingly the ice is melting it might become navigable year around allowing ships to get from the Atlantic to the Pacific on a much shorter route. Everybody else, except Canada, wants to consider it an international strait - as the US does since the fifties. We need people there…
Problem #2. With the suggested reforms in the justice system there would be mandatory jail sentences for gun related crimes and - hopefully - drug related crimes. On the left wing the bleedinghearts are opposed “philosophically” and crying about the overcrowded jails.
The solution.
Release all of the affected offenders (trigger-happy gunmen and drug dealers) in the far North. On uninhabited islands, on floating icefields and similar places that we want to claim sovereignty on. They should keep their crime related gun and/or meth for one week. Nothing else. No golf clubs or other supplies. You see, in this way we could resolve both problems: there would be all kind of “activity” up there (at least for a while) and the jails wouldn’t be overcrowded either. Plus, the streets will be cleaned of these scums, too.
Please, write to your MP and promote this simple solution! ;)
