The Journey to full time blogging

Start Blogging!

Thanks for visiting! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. My blog posts useful tips, ideas, tutorials and guides for WordPress bloggers - and articles about the life on the Canadian Prairies. If you are familiar with RSS readers, just add my feeds to your reader! You can also receive updates by email if you submit your email address in the box on the right.

I just converted my main site to WordPress, as I mentioned in my previous post. It took a bit longer than I’ve planned but that was totally not related to the script. Now this blog and my main site look almost identical — except that over there I removed the blog-like features from the main page: the post meta (date, category, author etc.), the comments, the permalinks.

This is just a small example how to use WP as a CMS. I always found amazing how you can combine the posts in categories and the Pages feature introduced since WP 1.5 to achieve the look and the functionality of a non-blog website, and still having the convenience to update everything from the admin panel of WordPress.

In the same time now I could gladly announce my new hosting/blogging plan offered in partnership with The BlogHotel. We think it’s an amazing plan for everybody who is not interested in learning the technical side of blogging. Here is how it works if you want a blog on your own domain but you don’t know anything about registration, hosting, installation etc.

  1. Search for a domain you’d like to register
  2. Pay the only $8.25/month for the package (for a year)
  3. Fill out the order form
  4. Done.

We will do the rest and shortly you will have a WP blog installed on your own domain, with themes and plugins of your choice. We will also take care of the upgrades and general technical maintenance. All you have to do is — Start Blogging!.

I’ve also been using Wordpress as a Content Management System for a number of my own sites and for a growing list of my clients as well.

You have a tight service package here Moshu. Two thumbs up!

I also use WP as CMs…but its not like you guys with proffessional ability.

    Just my testing pad :)

I would be interested in a way to transform sites to blogs, if that could be done easily for my readers. I am regularly writing to my (Hungarian) subscribers. So if you could recommend me some material which I could freely translate for them, that would be interesting.

S akkó mér nem mondod magyarul, János fijam? Kattogj a kontakt oldalra (> design > contact), és mesélj!

I was just wondering if you are using this for this blog.

I’m actually responding to question #3.

Janos, If your web host has fantastico in the c-panel, converting your sites to blogs will be a snap. If not, do a search on clickbank for “Blogging” and you’ll get all the info you need. Good Luck!
